Bite of the Bay

“How might we balance bite-sized content and cadence
to better inform non-political news consumers?”

As part of the Design Thinking and Research Project, my team worked with the San Francisco Chronicle to make more people in the Bay Area engaged with its election coverage by creating a salient and frictionless political news experience.

To pull out insights from news avoiders’ thoughts and life patterns, we conducted in-depth interviews, online and on-the-ground surveys, service safari and various synthesis methods.

After months of research, we found out that news readers, especially those who avoid consuming political news, want concise, casual and convenient news stories.

Based on what we observed, we created personas, journey maps, stakeholder maps and storyboards to generate the concept of the daily text message service “Bite of the Bay.”
